Local Athletes Advance to OFSAA Regionals

On the first day of SWOSSAA track and field, more than a dozen local athletes advanced to the OFSAA West Regionals.

Anastasia Maslak won the midget girls high jump with a leap of 1.53 metres. Maslak is a grade 9 student at Ursuline College.

John McGregor’s Bridget Carleton and UCC’s Jocelyn McGlynn where the next highest finishers Wednesday at the Chatham-Kent Community Athletic Complex. Carleton finished second in the midget shot put competition with a final distance of 8.74 metres. McGlynn jumped 4.63 metres in the midget girls long jump to finish second in the competition.

Other top Kent finishers are as follows, with the second day of SWOSSAA continuing Thursday in Windsor:

Anique Daley(John McGregor) – Third in senior girls 100m hurdles
Olivia Flook (Blenheim) – Fourth in 1,500-metre steeplechase
Spencer Roe (UCC) – Third in junior boys 100m hurdles
Taylor McArthur (UCC) – Fourth in senior boys 2000m steeplechase
Kadianne Webb (CKSS) – Fourth in midget girls long jump
Mariet Wieringa (UCC) – Fourth in midget girls 80-metre hurdles
Jonathan Koomans (CCHS) – Fourth in Junior Boys Triple jump
Paige Johnston (Dresden) – Fourth in junior girls triple jump
Mitchell Ball (CCHS) – Fourth in midget boys javelin
Carly Horvath (UCC) – Fourth in senior girls
Emily Dodman (CKSS) – Fourth in senior girls high jump

Several other local athletes advanced to OFSAA West Regionals Wednesday night with 5th and 6th place finishes.
