Local Ballers End Successful Season
Three Chatham basketball players finished their AAU season, with the Southwest Junior Lancers, this weekend in Chicago. Luke Allin (UCC), Ian Smart (CKSS) and Joel Barwick (CKSS) have spent the last 2 months practicing in Windsor and going to tournaments in Cincinnati, Akron, Detroit and finally Chicago.
Saturday the Jr. Lancers played a team from Saginaw Michigan, Deerfield, Illinois and Chicago. In the opener Smart had 4 pts and 2 rebounds and Allin had 5pts and 5 rebounds in a 69-41 loss. The second game Smart scored 4 with 2 boards, Allin had 4 pts and 5 boards and Barwick hit a three in a 60-36 loss.
Saturday night Allin lit it up for 21 points and 2 rebounds while Smart grabbed 4 boards and scored 4 pts with 2 assists but the Jr. Lancers still lost 62-53.
Sunday morning the team needed to win to continue on but came up short against a team from Wisconsin 66-53. All three Chatham boys made significant contributions Allin lead with 11 pts and 5 rebounds, Smart added 8 points and had 6 rebounds and 3 assists and Barwick drained 2 threes for 6 points.
Both Allin and Smart recently tried out for the under 17 Provincial team that competes in the National Championship in August. Allin has been invited back for the top 40 try out June 2-3 at McMaster University in Hamilton.
