The Chatham-Kent Wildcats won Division 2 Provincial gold medals at the Ontario Cup major midget girls basketball championship Sunday at Kitchener-Waterloo. The same group of Wildcats girls also captured Division 2 gold last season as well.

The Wildcats beat Hamilton Blessed Sacrament 49-39 in the championship game to finish with a 5-0 record on the weekend. Bridget Carleton led the way with 14 points and Hope Long had 9 in the final.

The top-seeded Chatham-Kent Wildcats beat Guelph CYO All-Star 61-51 in a semifinal. In pool play, the Wildcats beat the Mississauga Monarchs 43-26, with Alicia Huckle scoring 16-points and Carleton draining 11.

The Major Midget girls also beat the London Ramblers 49-38 and Hamilton Blessed Sacrament 47-39.

Chatham-Kent finished the season being ranked 9th in Onario out of 72 teams in the major midget division.
