Balkwill Sets Team Home Run Record

Chatham’s Larry Balkwill is making waves this summer playing for the Haymarket Senators of the Valley Baseball League.

Tuesday, Balkwill, a UCC grad, set a new single season home run record for the Haymarket Senators playing in the VBL. Balkwill hit his 10th home run of the season in the bottom of the 14 inning to lift the Senators to a 15-13 win over the Winchester Royals.

Balkwill tied the former mark of 9 home runs by a Haymarket player July 14 in an 8-3 win over Front Royal.

His ten home runs currently have Balkwill sitting 4th in the Valley Baseball League.

Balkwill will again return to play for the NCAA’s Siena Saints this coming season. Balkwill led the Saints last season in home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage, and on base percentage, and was named to the MAAC All-Academic team.

Haymarket is entering the last half dozen games of their season which will wrap up July 24 against Luray.
