Bantam Cougars Keep Rolling

The Chatham-Kent Bantam Cougars kept rolling along in their winning ways with a 35 – 7 victory over the Oakville Titans on Canada Day in Oakville.

The Cougars scored early and often in the first half to build a 34 – 7 half time lead. On the first possession Kelton Evans hit Ross Krieger for a 57 yard touchdown pass which was converted by Owen Dorssers for an early 7 – 0 lead. On Oakville’s first possession defensive end Austin Miller sack the Titans QB causing a fumble which he picked up and ran in for a touchdown. Before the first quarter ended Jermaine Caldwell capped a long Cougar drive with a 1 yard touchdown run.

In the second quarter the teams exchanged touchdowns with the Cougars’ coming in the air again as Jake Anderson hauled in a 53 yard TD reception. Before the half ended Liberty Rountree caught a 27 yard TD from Evans. The convert was blocked leaving the Cougars with the 34 – 7 half time lead.

The Cougar defence was strong all day long being led by middle linebacker Tanner Shuian who returned to this position for the first time this year. Other strong performances on defence were turned in by Brad Wild, Nolan Hakr (who had a fumble recovery) Quentin Forgie and Brady Pataki.

The Cougar offence spread the ball around as the two quarterbacks Evans and Nolan Ball together completed 11 of 15 attempts hitting 7 different receivers. Evans was 8 of 9 and Ball 3 of 6 for 202 yards in passing. The Cougars also used 8 different ball carriers in the game lead by Caldwell, Nate Krieger and Dillon Beaumont.

The Cougars are now 4 and 1 on the season and now head to Sarnia next Sunday.
