Canada Scores First Medal at London Summer Olympics
Canadian synchronized divers Emilie Heymans and Jennifer Abel captured Canada’s first medal of the 2012 London Summer Olympics.
The divers entered their fifth and final dive in the 3m springboard competition needing a strong final dive to move into the medals, and the duo did so moving from fourth into the medals grabbing a bronze.
For Heymans, the medal marked her fourth diving medal, as she has competed in, and won a medal, in each of the past four Summer Olympic Games including this year.
The United States took silver, while China’s Wu Minxia and He Zi won gold.
Both Canadian divers will compete in the individual springboard competition starting later this week.
