Diamonds Sparkle, Win Home Tournament
Chatham opened the tournament Friday with a 7-4 win over Dorchester. Ethan Vsetula and Deni Goure each had two singles and a double in the game, while Austin Kozlof put together three singles in the win.
The Diamonds easily handled McGregor in the second game of the tournament, crushing their opponent 12-1 in only four innings. Deni Goure had two doubles and a triple, batting in five RBIs. Kozlof, Reid Goodburn, Ian Campbell, Quinn Shoemaker, Lucas Wiseman, Darion Bacik, and Vsetula also all had multi-hit games.
During their second game Saturday, the Chatham Diamonds shut out St. Catherines 7-0. Quinn Shoemaker had two singles and 3 RBIs, while Goure, Kozlof, and Cameron Pickford all had three hits.
Playing Riverside in the semi-final, Chatham squeaked out a 9-6 win over a tough opponent. Austin Kozlof had an incredible game compiling two singles, a double, and three triples.
In the final, Chatham faced Brampton, who was the only team to have beaten the Senior Rookie Diamonds this season. Chatham however, would come away victorious, defeating Brampton 17-12 in a high scoring affair. Ross Henderson and Quinn Shoemaker each had four hits in the win. Henderson also had four RBIs, while Pickford picked up five RBIs and three hits in the win.
Chatham had suffered their first loss to Brampton in the Walker Homesites Tournament June 29-July 1. Following the tournament, the Senior Rookies improved their overall record to 24-1-1.
