Green Flag Waving On Buxton’s Mid-Summer Championship
Three drivers will looking to extend current winning streaks as well as defend their Mid-Season Championships this Saturday night at South Buxton Raceway.
Blenheim’s Shawn Jones has won four straight Tirecraft Comp 4 features while Shrewsbury’s Jim Dale Jr. and Merlin’s Eren Vanderiviere have three straight feature wins in their classes heading into Saturday’s races, whcih begin at 7 p.m..
All three won mid-season championships last July.
Jones’ mid-season championship was the sixth in his incredible run of 10 consecutive feature wins.
The 20-year-old, who has six feature wins this season, trails Cottam’s Denis DeSerrano by 17 points in the drivers’ standings.
Jones and DeSerrano have combined to win all 24 feature races since the start of 2011 – Jones with 16 wins and DeSerrano eight.
Dale Jr. has won three straight and six Schinkels Gourmet Meats UMP Modified feature races this season. His mid-season championship last July was his first since 2008 when he won both the Modified and Late Model title races on the same night.
Dale Jr. takes a 47-point lead over Leamington’s Joel Dick into Saturday’s action. Dick has the class’s other three feature wins.
Vanderiviere has also won three straight Windride Transportation Sport Stocks features and five on the season. The reigning points and mid-season champion has a commanding 86-point lead over teammate Jason Fox of Chatham.
Brad Authier, also from Chatham, has also won three straight features and four on the year in the Glencoe Auto Recyclers UMP Late Models.
Ridgetown’s Dale Glassford won last summer’s Late Model mid-season race.
Chatham’s Gregg Haskell leads the standings by 90 points over Glassford, as both drivers have a pair of feature wins.
The Cory Schives memorial feature, which was slated last Saturday when races were cancelled because of the heat, will be rescheduled for Saturday, July 21.
The Can-Am Championship for the Ontario Topless Sprints, Michigan Traditional Sprints and Buckeye State Sprint Series will also be held next Saturday.
