Pegg Helps Canada To Best Ever Team Gymnastics Finish
Blenheim product Dominique Pegg, who lived and competed in Chatham-Kent until 2003 helped Canada to their best ever Team Gymnastics All-Around finish as the Canadian squad took 5th place overall Tuesday in the London Summer Olympics.
Pegg was Canada’s top finisher and only qualifier in the individual all-around qualification round, helping her team to their first ever Team All-Around Olympic final.
The United States captured gold while Russia and Romania took silver and bronze respectively.
Prior to the competition, the Canadian athletes, including Pegg stated that they were already in celebration mode based on the fact they had achieved a position no other Canadian women’s gymnastics team had managed to accomplish in the history of the Olympic Games.
Prior to the competition, Pegg also received some encouragement from one of Canada’s biggest celebrities, Justin Bieber. Bieber and Pegg exchange Tweets on the social networking site Twitter, as Bieber Tweeted to Pegg, “want to let you know as a proud canadian Im always supporting you and proud of you.”
Pegg will compete in the individual all-around finals Thursday as Canada’s only athlete to qualify for the final.
