Havoc Girls Lose in Final

The Kent Havoc U-18 Girls represented Southwest Rugby at the Rugby Ontario Junior Cup Day in Markham on Sunday.

The games were played at Fletchers Fields, and included competitions for U-14 Boys, U15 Boys and Girls, U-16 Boys and Girls, U-18 Boys and Girls.

Kent faced the Peterborough Pagans (TRU Champs) in the semi-final game, and after a very even contest defeated the Pagans 7-5 to move to the Finals. Kingston Panthers (EORU Champs) played last years Ontario Champions from Highland (NRU Champs). Highland won that game easily, setting the rematch from last years Championship game.

The Havoc went into the Final Game with a reduced squad, both from injuries and player commitments elsewhere. The first half was very tight, and the teams went into halftime with Highland leading 10-7.

The 2nd half showed the same level of heart and effort from the Havoc Ladies, but Highland began to break down the Havoc defense and put points on the board. The game finished at 34-7 for Highland, making them repeat Champions.

Highland is a very strong club who dominated the competition in the NRU this year. At the end they had more speed, more experience and more depth than any of their opponents in the Championship.

The competition at this years event was much better than in the past 2 seasons, and bodes well for the future of our game.
