For parents and local sports fans, it’s an exciting time of year, for student-athletes, it often comes with mixed emotions…but the high school sporting season kicks off next week.

Friday, September 7 will mark the opening of the high school regular season schedule as the KCSSAA senior boys football league gets underway.

Last seasons undefeated Wallaceburg Tartans will start their defence against the Blenheim Bobcats Friday in Wallaceburg at 3:45pm. The game will be dedicated to former WDSS student Sam Moran who lost his battle with leukemia in August.

The team plans to collect donations at the game to be donated to Moran’s family and are asking fans to wear orange in support of leukemia research, or red, which was Moran’s favourite colour.

Chatham-Kent Secondary School will travel across town to face their rival, the UCC Lancers Friday at 3:45pm.
