Redeemer Trio Named to OCAA All-Academic Team

Three Chatham-Kent athletes competing at Redeemer College were named to the OCAA All-Academic team this week.

Chatham’s Janelle Koopmans, who was named Redeemer’s female athlete of the year, was one of the athletes to also be honoured for her academic achievements. Koopmans is a graduate of Chatham Christian High School, and participated as a member of Redeemer’s top female badminton doubles team, which captured an OCAA bronze medal this year.

Wallaceburg’s (Port Lambton) Taylor Kraayenbrink also made the OCAA All-Academic team. Kraayenbrink was named the Redeemer cross country team’s male MVP this season, and was also named the Redeemer Athlete of the Month in October after finishing 13th at the Provincial Cross Country Championships, and being named a second team all-star.

Finally, Chatham’s Ashley Grootenboer, who was Redeemer’s female athlete of the month in September, was also recognized as member of the OCAA All-Academic team. Grootenboer played centre back for the Redeemer Royals soccer team, which finished the OCAA regular season with a 3-3-1 record.
