Wallaceburg’s Shaun Suisham showed the football world why he was the right man for the Pittsburgh Steelers starting kicker job Thursday as he nailed his only field goal attempt in a 17-16 Steelers win.

Facing the Carolina Panthers, Suisham hit a long 49-yard field goal with 41 seconds remaining in the first quarter to put the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead 10-0.

After Carolina fought back into the game, Suisham’s kick would prove to be the difference maker in the game. Suisham also connected on both of his extra point attempts following Emmanual Sanders and Weslye Saunders touchdowns.

Suisham finishes the 2012 preseason with a perfect 3-for-3 record on field goal attempts, along with going 8-for-8 on extra points.

The Steelers will open their regular season Sunday, September 9 on the road against the Denver Broncos. The two teams are scheduled to play in the prime time slot at 8:20pm on NBC.
