Chatham Maroons Suspend Assistant Coach O’Neil
After the Chatham Daily News broke a story Tuesday, regarding Chatham Maroons assistant coach Kyle O’Neil making anti-Semitic comments on Twitter, the team has suspended O’Neil.
O’Neil is accused of calling NHL commisioner Gary Bettman a “greasy #Jew” on his Twitter account, which was deleted shortly after the Daily News broke the story.
O’Neil is in his second season with the Maroons, and is a former player with the team.
In a news release published on the Maroons website, the team made the following statement,
“The entire Maroons organization is shocked and disappointed in the comments posted via Assistant Coach Kyle O’Neil’s twitter account. O’Neil has denied posting the comments and has been suspended pending further review.
This type of behaviour is not representative of the Maroons core values and will not be tolerated. Chatham Maroons are committed to fostering a respectful and sportsman like environment on and off the ice.”
