Blenheim Blades Improve to 6-0
The Blenheim Blades are the team to beat in the Great Lakes Junior C League as they sit as the only undefeated team in the loop with an impressive 6-0 start.
The game, which saw a flurry of rough stuff in the third period, ending in seven players being ejected for fighting, was another display of goaltending from Blenheim netminder Dylan Vanderpol who made 23 saves in the shutout.
Shawn Hope scored 13 seconds into the game, a goal which would stand as the winner for the remaining 60 minutes.
In the second period, Kirk McKillop netted an insurance marker on the powerplay for the Blades, to help them to a 2-0 victory.
Saturday night in the first game of Interlock play between the SOJHL and Great Lakes league, Blenheim doubled up the Port Stanley Sailors 4-2.
Tyler Clarke, Aaron Pastorious, Jarrod Oliphant, and Shawn Hope scored for the Blenheim Blades in the win.
Hope currently leads the Blades in scoring with 6 points in 6 games, almost matching his total of 7 points through 35 games last season.
Blenheim will host the last place Kingsville Comets Sunday at 7:15 in Blenheim.
