Brodie Assigned to the American Hockey League

A season of sitting on the sidelines is not what the Calgary Flames had in mind for their top defensive prospect, Dresden’s TJ Brodie.

The team assigned Brodie to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Abbotsford Heat, assuring Brodie will be on the ice and will continue to hone his game at the professional level this season.

Other players who spent considerable time in the NHL last season will also find themselves in the AHL this season, including Lance Bouma and Roman Horak who were also assigned by Calgary to Abbotsford.

Brodie played 54 games last season with the Calgary Flames before suffering a concussion against Winnipeg, which ended his season. In those 54 games, Brodie had 2 goals and 12 assists, and led regular Calgary blueliners with a +3 rating.

During the last NHL lockout, several current NHL stars, who were then young prospects, spent the season in the AHL and instantly made impacts at the NHL level when the league reconvened.

Brodie and the Abbotsford Heat will begin their 2012 season October 12 against the Peoria Rivermen.

Last season Brodie had 3 points in 12 games with Abbotsford, and played a full season with the Heat in 2010-2011 when he scored 5 goals and added 29 assists in 68 games.
