You can never count the Dresden Jr Kings out of a game. That’s a lesson the Wheatley Sharks learned the hard way Monday night as the Dresden Kings came from behind and beat the Sharks 4-3 on the road.

After veteran goalies Brent Paxton and Marc Tremblay shut the door in the first period, Wheatley struck first in the second frame with goals coming from Brett Bowman and Jon Woelk.

Dresden would answer back with a tally from Jeremy Griffore, but Wheatley wasn’t done, as former Blenheim Blades star Brendon Anger put the Sharks ahead 3-1. Less than 20 seconds later however, Dresden would regain momentum with Dylan Mertz sliding one home, with assists coming from Josh Beatty and Jesse Allen.

In the third period, sitting down 3-2, the Dresden Kings were looking for another spark, which they got from second year player Macks Holmes. Holmes scored his first of the season, assisted by Brennan Rainey at 7:19 of the third to tie the game, before scoring again, this time on the powerplay, at 12:07 of the third, to put the game away.

Paxton would shut the door for the Dresden Kings in the last five minutes of the game, giving Dresden their first win of the season.

The Dresden Kings will now travel to Wallaceburg Wednesday to face the Lakers, before welcoming the Essex 73s to town Friday night. Wheatley has a full week off before facing Mooretown next Monday at home.
