Lakers Drop Home Opener to Kings
It was a much improved Wallaceburg Lakers team that hit the ice Wednesday to face the Dresden Kings at their home opener, compared to the team that lost 6-0 to Blenheim only days before.
Wednesday, Wallaceburg earned a point in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Dresden Kings.
Barry Braun and Kyle Jacobson scored for the Wallaceburg Lakers in the end to end first period that saw Wallaceburg and Dresden fire 25 and 27 shots respectively.
Macks Holmes scored his third of the season, while Taylor Sisson also scored for the Dresden Jr. Kings to keep the scored tied after one period.
After the defence arrived in the second, neither team would score again in the game. Devin Cove was solid in net for Wallaceburg making 43 saves. For Dresden, veteran Brent Paxton again got the start, and made 41 saves in the win.
With the game tied 2-2 after regulation and overtime, a shootout was needed. Jesse Allen scored on his first shot for Dresden, but Wallaceburg`s Jeff Nolfo answered back. After multiple shooters each and the game on his stick, Dresden`s Cam Ross scored the shootout winner.
Ross was named the game`s first star, followed by the team`s goaltenders.
