Wallaceburg Lakers Sink Wheatley

The Wallaceburg Lakers are off to a strong start after defeating the Wheatley Sharks 6-4 Wednesday night, their third straight win after losing their first game of the year.

After Mike Reid scored for Wheatley on the powerplay to open the game, Wallaceburg stormed back with Jeff Nolfo, Bobby Domin, and Lucais Meyskens scoring in a ten minute period. Wheatley would pulled closer before the period was out, scoring on the powerplay again. This time, it was Dan Matoski who found the back of the net.

Justin Whitson scored the only goal of the second period, assisted by Nolfo, giving Wallaceburg a 4-2 lead heading into the third period.

Wheatley wasn’t done yet however, as second year forward Eric Rivard, a Tilbury resident and UCC student, scored two goals to open the third period, tying the game 4-4.

Wallaceburg continued to apply pressure with Nolfo scoring the game winning goal at 16:08 of the third. The goal was Nolfo’s fourth point of the game as he collected two goals and two assists. Sam Jasmin would pop in an insurance marker less than a minute later to lift the Lakers to a 6-4 win.

Wallaceburg will travel to Mooretown Saturday night to play the Flags.
