Blades Cut Lakers With Late Goal
The Blenheim Blades scored with less than three minutes remaining in the third period to cut down the Wallaceburg Lakers and take home a 4-3 road win.
Matt Fleury opened the scoring for Blenheim on the powerplay early in the first, with assists going to Aiden Wiebenga and Cam Aitken.
Jeff Nolfo, who leads the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League in goals, answered back for the Wallaceburg Lakers on the powerplay minutes later, but after another penalty, Owen Bateman would put Blenheim ahead 2-1 at the end of the first. Aitken picked up his second assist of the game on Bateman’s goal.
In the second period, Nolfo scored again on the powerplay to even things up and send the game to the third period tied 2-2.
Dylan Bonner would put Blenheim ahead only a minute into the third period, before Justin Whitson tied the game again for Wallaceburg.
Then, with less than three minutes on the clock, Ryan Frizzell scored his first goal of the season, which proved to be the game winner for the Blenheim Blades.
Blenheim will travel to Belle River Friday night before welcoming the Mooretown Flags to town Sunday. Wallaceburg will face Mooretown on the road Saturday.
