Blades, Maroons Continue to Impress

The Blenheim Blades and Chatham Maroons couldn’t have asked for better starts to their Great Lakes and GOJHL seasons respectively. Blenheim sits in first overall in the Junior C loop with an undefeated 7-0 record, while the Chatham Maroons are second in the GOJHL Western Conference after starting 5-2

In Blenheim, the Blades needed a third period rally to remain perfect after falling behind 2-0 early in their game against the Kingsville Comets.

Jake O’Neil scored three minutes into the third period to start Blenheim’s comeback, before rookie Kirk McKillop of Blenheim scored back to back goals to tie, and win the game.

Justin Pratt took the win in net making 26 saves on 28 shots against.

In Chatham, the Maroons looked to improve on their strong start against the St. Marys Lincolns. Trevor Richardson scored an even strength goal to start the game, before captain Sean Myers scored on the powerplay to give the Maroons a 2-1 lead heading into the second.

Eric Palazzolo would score twice in the second period to extend Chatham’s lead to 4-2 going into the third. In the third period however, St. Marys would fight back, tying up the game.

Overtime was needed, and at 2:27 of the extra frame, Steven Szekesy buried the winner for the Maroons lifting them to the 5-4 win. Both Szekesy and Myers finished the game with a goal and two assists.
