JMSS Dominates Day One of Kent Tennis
Day one of the Kent County tennis championships was held at the Joe Carpenter courts on Thursday Oct. 11, 2012.
Boys Doubles: 1st: Tanner Goldsmith and Brady McIntyre (JMSS) 8-3 win over 2nd place team from UCC, Brandon Joyes and Matt Ruttle. 3rd: Ben Davies and Aiden Poole (CKSS), 4th Shawn Brown and Justin Baker of JMSS.
Last season Kent was won by the UCC team of Cam Martin and Luc Hebert. Martin has graduated while Luc will play singles tomorrow.
Boys Doubles points: JMSS 9 (8 for first and 1 for fourth), UCC 5 pts, CKSS 3 pts.
Mixed Doubles: 1st Ashley Herfst and Sam Wilcox (JMSS) 8-3 victory over Jason Ellis and Anais Rountree (JMSS), 3rd was Sarah Burton and Colin Joyes of UCC and 4th Paige Meyerink and Alin Dovancescu of CKSS.
Last season Kent was won by Rick An and Nicole Protopapas of CKSS.
Mixed doubles points: JMSS 13 pts (8 for first and 5 for second), UCC 3 pts and CKSS 1 pt.
Girls Doubles: 1st Kara Hueniken and Deanne Lo of CKSS, 8-1 winners over Clare Gilhula and Merrissa Clowater of UCC. 3rd was Selena Kitamura and Corynn Savard of JMSS while 4th went to Page Holland and Selina Holland of JMSS.
Last season GD was won by Reanna Underwood and Cassidy Fenton of JMSS. Both have graduated.
Girls doubles points: CKSS 8 pts, UCC 5 pts, and JMSS 4 pts (3 and 1).
Point totals after day one: JMSS: 26 pts, UCC 13 pts, CKSS 12 pts. The school with the highest number of points wins the team championship. JMSS are two-time defending champions and have won five of the six years since tennis was reinstated as an official KCSSAA activity.
