Maroons Roll to Win Over Leamington

The Chatham Maroons maintained first overall in the GOJHL Western Conference after rolling to a 6-2 win over the Leamington Flyers Thursday night.

In the first period, Trevor Richardson opened the scoring for Chatham, potting the Maroons’ first of three powerplay goals on the night at 7:05 of the opening frame. Brayden Hopkins and Ian Faubert picked up assists on the goal.

After Leamington tied the game early in the second, Richardson put the Maroons back in the lead with his second goal of the game, before Blake Blondeel scored in the dying seconds of the period to put Chatham up 3-1.

In the third, Sean Myers and Ian Faubert would score powerplay goals. Faubert would also score an even strength goal, to give the second year forward a three point night.

Darien Ekblad made 27 saves against his former team in the win.

Alex Morgan, playing his first game back in a Maroons jersey after returning to the team from the OHL’s Soo Greyhounds, picked up an assist on Faubert’s second third period goal.
