Maroons Thankful For Winning Weekend
Over Thanksgiving weekend, the Chatham Maroons were busy putting together a pair of wins to help them climb in the GOJHL standings.
Saturday as a part of the GOJHL Showcase Weekend, the Maroons travelled to play the Waterloo Siskins. Eric Palazzolo and Blake Blondeel led the way for the Maroons scoring twice each in a massive 7-1 win over Waterloo.
Marco Canzoneri, Brayden Hopkins, and Ian Faubert scored the other Chatham Maroons goals in the victory. Jake Flegel added 3 assists, while Palazzolo, Faubert, and Blondeel all finished with 3 points.
Sunday at Memorial Arena in Chatham, the Maroons continued their winning weekend edging the Leamington Flyers 3-2.
Michael Verboom opened the scoring for Chatham, potting an even strength goal with assists going to Evan Mascaro and Hopkins. Leamington would answer back on the powerplay before the period was out, with former Maroon Troy Cox picking up an assist on the goal.
In the second period, the two teams traded goals on the powerplay. Chatham’s powerplay goal was scored by Trevor Richardson, with assists going to Mascaro and Verboom. Tied in the third period with less than 4 minutes to go on the clock, Eric Palazzolo continued his strong weekend, scoring the game winning goal. Wallaceburg’s Ben Pataki and Maroons captain Sean Myers picked up assists on the goal.
The wins vault the Maroons into first place in the GOJHL Western Conference with a 7-2 record through the first 9 games of the season.
