73s Too Much For Lakers
The Wallaceburg Lakers couldn’t fend off the Essex 73s offensive onslaught Wednesday night at Memorial Arena as Essex powered past Wallaceburg 6-1.
Matthew Hebert, Phil Janikowski, and Jordan Ryan scored for Essex in the opening frame giving the road team a commanding 3-0 lead.
Wallaceburg was able to weather the storm in the second period as Essex managed to slip only a single goal by Lakers netminder Devin Cove. Alex Garon had the 73s second period tally.
In the third, Garon scored twice to complete his hat trick in the game, while the Wallaceburg Lakers picked up their lone goal of the game shorthanded, as Sam Jasmin scored with assists going to Lucais Meyskens and goalie Devin Cove.
Cove made 33 saves in the loss.
The loss keeps Wallaceburg near the cellar of the Great Lakes Junior C League with a record of 6-10-0-1 in their first 17 games. Friday, the Lakers will travel down Highway 78 to face the Dresden Kings, who sit 2-points ahead of the floundering Lakers, but also have two games in hand.
The Blenheim Blades continue to be the top Chatham-Kent Great Lakes team, with 22 points through 17 games, good for third, behind Essex and Belle River.
