Blades Top Lakers in Shootout
The Blenheim Blades were able to squeak out a win on the road against the Wallaceburg Lakers, as Zach Mailloux scored the shootout winner for the Blades.
In the first, Cam Aitken opened the scoring on the powerplay, with assists going to Aidan Wiebenga and Trevor Sparks, giving the Blades a 1-0 lead. Zach Mailloux added to the Blades’ lead midway through the opening period, before Sam Jasmin scored a shorthanded goal to cut the lead to one as the period came to a close.
Zach Horvath extended Blenheim’s lead in the second period, but the Wallaceburg Lakers would again pull within a single goal as Justin Whitson answered back.
In the third, Barry Braun tied the game at 3-3, where it would stand at the end of regulation and the overtime period.
Dylan Vanderpol stopped each of Wallaceburg’s shooters in the shootout, while Mailloux was able to beat Lakers goalie Joel Sowinski to secure the victory for Blenheim.
