Fantuz Donates Brain For Concussion Study

What has become a common practice in the NHL, particularly with enforcers, has started to spread across the sporting world, as multiple CFL players announced this week, that they would be donating their brains to Boston’s Sport Legacy, which is studying concussions in athletes.

Chatham’s Andy Fantuz was among the CFL players who made the decision. Fantuz said he made the choice to make the game as safe as possible.

The posthumous study aims to raise awareness and knowledge about head injuries in sports, and potentially work toward prevention, diagnosis, and treatment methods for these injuries.

Fantuz suffered a concussion in August this year, after taking a hard hit against the Calgary Stampeders.

The Hamilton Tiger Cats receiver is holding a fundraising event called Bash for Brains this Friday in Toronto, with proceeds going toward stopconussions.com and Sport Legacy.
