Jasmin Lifts Lakers to Overtime Win in Dresden

Sam Jasmin scored shorthanded, with only thirty seconds remaining in the overtime period, to lift the Wallaceburg Lakers to a 5-4 win in Dresden Friday night.

Jeff Nolfo opened the scoring for the Lakers in the opening period, before second year player Macks Holmes, tied things up on the powerplay for the Dresden Kings. Justin Whitson would score for Wallaceburg before the period was out to give the Lakers a 2-1 lead heading into the second period.

The second period was all Dresden, with Holmes scoring his second of the game, and Wade Esselment, notching the temporary go ahead goal.

After rejoining the Lakers only a game ago, Jordan Durston made a strong return, scoring to open the third. Durston would then assist on Bobby Domin’s goal for Wallaceburg.

With only 28 seconds remaining in the game, Alex Ritchie scored for Dresden, salvaging a point and sending the contest into overtime.

Then in the overtime period, Sam Jasmin buried a shorthanded goal to give Wallaceburg the win. Durston picked up his fourth point of the game, assisting on the winner.

In other local Great Lakes Junior C action, the Blenheim Blades were shut out 6-0 by the Alvinston Flyers.
