Junior Hockey Roundup: Blades, Maroons Win
The Chatham Maroons picked up a 4-1 round win Friday night over the St. Mary’s Lincolns. 15-year-old Drew Marlatt scored the game winner, as an emergency call up from the Chatham-Kent Cyclones Minor Midget AAA team in the game.
Brayden Hopkins, Thomas Eady, and Trevor Richardson also scored for the Chatham Maroons while Darien Ekblad was spectacular in net stopping 40 of the 41 shots he faced.
In Port Stanely, the Blenheim Blades finished their interlock play this season with the SOJHL with another win. Blenheim edged the Port Stanley Sailors 5-4 in overtime.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first, Bowe Shepley and Jake O’Neil scored powerplay goals for Blenheim in the second to tie the game at 2. Tyler Clarke and Ryan Frizzell scored in the third period, before Ridgetown resident Owen Batemam scored the overtime winner.
The Belle River Canadiens downed the Wallaceburg Lakers 4-1. Wallaceburg’s only goal was scored by Lucais Meyskens.
In Dresden, the Kings had a tough night, losing to the Essex 73s 7-1. Alex Ritchie had the lone Dresden goal.
