Maroons Shutout Legionnaires, Take Over First
The Chatham Maroons took over sole possession of first place in the Western Conference of the GOJHL after a 3-0 win over the Sarnia Legionnaires Sunday night.
Eric Palazzolo put the Maroons on the board early in the first period. Trevor Richardson would then score on the powerplay with assists going to Jake Flegal and Michael Verboom, to put the Maroons up 2-0 after one period.
In the second, both goaltenders would shut the door keeping the score at 2-0 heading to the third.
Again on the powerplay in the third period, Palazollo would score his second of the game, with assists going to Flegal and Richardson.
For the second time over the weekend, Chatham goaltender Darien Ekblad starred for his team, this time stopping all 33 shots he faced.
Chatham now sits in first, with a record of 13-5-1, good for 27 points, 2 more than second place Leamington. The Maroons also have a game in hand on the Flyers.
