Several Blast Competitors Medal in Leamington

A small group of fifteen swimmers braved the icy roads Sunday morning to travel to Leamington for the second S.E.A.L. Meet of the year. The Leamington Lasers played host to the Blenheim Blast, The Wallaceburg Marlins and The Chatham Y Pool Sharks.

Linnea Mattson(7) and Regan Vlasschaert (7) both dominated the podium in the 7 & under girls category, each coming away with two first place finishes from the meet. Linnea placed first in the 25 m backstroke with a personal best time of 27.89 seconds. Regan followed in close second place position with a personal best time of 28.55 seconds. Linnea also won the 50m breaststroke in 36.43 seconds, shaving close to two seconds off her previous time. Regan was fifth in the breaststroke in a time of 39.42 seconds. Regan won first place in the 25m butterfly in a time of 28.86 seconds, smashing her old record by 8 seconds. Linnea followed in third place in a time of 32.78 seconds, shaving over seven seconds from her previous best time. Regan won the 25m freestyle in a time of 24.62 seconds, and Linnea placed fourth in a time of 30.71 seconds.

11 year old Paige White had four personal best swims at this meet, swimming away with first place in the 10-11 girls 50m breaststroke in a time of 48.28 seconds. Paige was second in the 100m I.M. in a time of 1:38.59, and had fifth place performances in her 100m freestyle (1:30.58), 50m backstroke (48.20) and 50m butterfly(47.73) events. Mackenzie Holmes (11) had two top ten finishes at the meet, placing sixth in the 50m backstroke in a personal best time of 48.38 seconds. She also placed seventh in the 100m I.M. in a time of 1:47.29 seconds.

13 year old Natalie Robinson placed second in the 12-13 year old girls 50m butterfly in a time of 40.34 seconds. Delainey Johnson (12) swam to fifth place finish in that event in a time of 43.08 seconds. Delainey was fourth in both the 100m freestyle in a personal best time of 1:23.23 and in the 100m backstroke in a time of 1:37.62. Natalie was ninth in the 100m backstroke in a time of 1:43.00. In the 100m I.M. event, Delainey placed sixth (1:34.21) and Natalie secured ninth place in a time of 1:36.83. Delainey also placed eighth in the 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:34.21.

13 year old Hannah Clarke had two tenth place finishes in the 100m freestyle (128.20) and 100m backstroke (1:43.36). Hannah also shaved almost three seconds off her time in the 100m I.M. to finish in 1:39.35 seconds. Brooklyn Want (12) had three personal best swims at the meet, shaving over three seconds off her previous record in the 50m butterfly for a time of 55.98 seconds. She also set new personal best times in her 100m freestyle (1:28.60) and set a new standard for her 100m I.M. (1:54.26). 12 year old Cassandra Louwerse had two personal best times at the meet shaving almost sixteen seconds off her time in the 100m breaststroke to finish in 2:22.40.

In the 8-9 year old girls’ division, 9 year old Georgia Blackshaw had four personal best times at the meet. She shaved over eight seconds off her previous time in the 50m freestyle to finish in 1:04.13. She also set new personal times in the 100 I.M. (2:56.41), 25m backstroke (32.49) and 25m breaststroke (38.08). 8 year old Rylee Stanford also had two personal best swims at the meet, smashing eighteen seconds off her time in the 25m breaststroke to finish in 49.25 seconds. Rylee also had a personal best swim in her 25m backstroke (48.32). Clara Romano (8) swam her fastest 25m breaststroke in a time of 36.64 seconds. Clara also participated in her first 25m butterfly event setting a new benchmark of 31 seconds.

10 year old Gabriel Louwerse swam a personal best time of 2:39.49 in the 10-11 year old boys’ 100m freestyle. The next S.E.A.L. meet will be hosted in Sarnia Sunday, December 2.
