Sharks Edge Flags in Overtime
It took extra time for the Wheatley Sharks to down the Mooretown Flags Monday night at Wheatley Area Arena, as Dylan Impens scored the overtime winner 1:07 into the additional frame. The goal capped off a three point evening for Impens as he led the Sharks to the win.
Brendon Anger opened the scoring in the first for Wheatley, before Alec Rutherford answered for the Mooretown Flags in the dying minutes of the period.
In the second, Kyle Quick and Eric Rivard put the Sharks up by two, but Mooretown continued to fight back tying the game before the close of the period with goals from Andrew Sokol and Mike Burns.
Burns scored his second of the game at 8:37 of the third period on the powerplay to put Mooretown ahead for the first time in the game. Mike Reid scored five minutes later, and send the game to overtime where Impens, who assisted on Reid’s goal, would score the winner.
Marc Tremblay picked up the win in net for the Sharks, stopping 20 of 24 shots he faced.
The win helped Wheatley climb three points ahead of Mooretown in the GLJCHL standings.
