St. Thomas Puts Up Double Digits on Chatham

The Chatham Maroons didn’t look like a first place team Friday night as the St. Thomas Stars put up double digits against the Maroons in a 10-4 whipping.

After falling behind 3-0 in the first, Michael Verboom scored early in the second, assisted by Brayden Hopkins and Ben Pataki to cut the Stars’ lead to two.

Brennan Feasey continued Chatham’s comeback scoring on the powerplay midway through the second frame, with assists going to Sean Myers and Steven Szekesy. St. Thomas however, would score twice more in the second period to make it 5-2 heading into the final frame.

In the third, the Stars struck first, before Sean Myers, assisted by Feasey, gave a glimmer of hope to the Maroons. Feasey would score again, pulling Chatham within two, but the Maroons would collapse late in the game.

In the final minutes of the game, Chatham allowed four more goals, including two in a 15 second span.

Chatham kept starter Darien Ekblad between the pipes for all ten goals in the shell shocking game.
