Ekblad Suits Up With the Saginaw Spirit

After leading the Chatham Maroons to first overall in the GOJHL’s Western Conference, and being named the November Goaltender of the Month, Maroons backstopper Darien Ekblad received the call from the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit.

Last week, Saginaw acquired Ekblad’s OHL rights from the Plymouth Whalers in exchange for a 13th round draft pick in the upcoming OHL Priority Draft.

The move was a necessity for the Saginaw Spirit, as their starting goalie, and Detroit Red Wings prospect Jake Paterson was named to Canada’s National Junior team for the upcoming IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships.

In 25 games with the Chatham Maroons this season, Ekblad has 18 wins, a 2.93 GAA, and a 0.914 save percentage.

In his call up with the Spirit, Ekblad didn’t see any action as Nikita Serebryakov made 38 saves in a 6-3 win over the Windsor Spitfires.
