High School Extracurriculars to Cease
Following a statement by OSSTF president Ken Coran, all high school extracurricular activities, including athletics, will be ceased as of next week due to an ongoing battle between the Provincial government and teachers over Bill 115.
Secondary school teachers will withdraw all extracurricular involvement by December 10, as they look to regain their collective bargaining rights.
Coran stated in his press release and OSSTF Communications Tweeted that the teachers union had already offered, and is still prepared to accept a wage freeze, “If the gov’t wants a wage freeze to save money, we have said and we are still willing to accept it.”
Although the first season of Kent County Athletics has already been completed, several winter sports are now underway and will be halted as of Monday including hockey, curling, boys basketball, and girls volleyball.
