Kings Outlast Flyers at Home
Article from Pointstreak. In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Dresden Kings escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Alvinston Flyers.
Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Jeremy Griffore’s goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.
Griffore was all over the ice for Dresden, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Griffore scored the first of his two goals at 8:34 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Cam Ross picked up the assist. Griffore’s next tally made the score 4-3 Dresden with 9:47 left in the third period. Derek VanEvery assisted on the tally.
The Kings pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 27 penalty minutes.
Dresden additionally got points from Dylan Mertz, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Dresden also got a goal from Alex Ritchie as well. In addition, Dresden received assists from John Montgomery, Josh Beatty, and Keith Maisonville, who contributed one a piece.
Alvinston’s penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Dresden power plays. The Flyers’ offense rang up 39 shots on Dresden’s net.
Alvinston was led by Josh Moore, who grabbed two goals. Moore scored the first of his two goals at 2:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alvinston. Brett Duncan provided the assist. Moore’s next tally made the score 3-2 Alvinston with 12:05 left in the second period. Dawson Elviage assisted on the tally. Tyler Kettler also scored for Alvinston. Other players who recorded assists for Alvinston were Cody Perriam, who had two and Kirk Dorman and Chad Vaneyk, who each chipped in one.
The Kings’ Brent Paxton stopped 36 shots out of the 39 that he faced. For Dresden, Maisonville and Mike Myers were ejected from the contest. James Morreau rejected 23 shots on goal for the Flyers. Alvinston totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play. The Flyers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Fraser was ejected from the game.
