Lakers Lose 10th Straight
The Wallaceburg Lakers came close to snapping their now 10 game losing streak, but were unable to get by the visiting Mooretown Flags, falling 7-6. The Lakers now have not won since November 9, when they edged the Dresden Kings in overtime, and have lost 16 of their last 17 games.
In the first period of Wednesday’s game, Wallaceburg fell behind 3-2, picking up goals from Justin Whitson and Bobby Domin. Mooretown’s Jeff Schroeter who had four points on the night, also scored in the first.
The Lakers showed signs of life in the second period coming back to tie the game at 4-4 heading to the third. Wallaceburg scored twice on the powerplay, with Whitson scoring his second with an extra attacker of the game, and Scott Lubbers also scoring with the man advantage. Schroeter scored his second of the game to keep the game tied.
Mooretown’s Riley Roberts had a big game and a bigger third period, collecting four points on the night, and scoring twice in the third period, including the game winning goal. Brett Storr and Lucais Meyskens scored for Wallaceburg in the third, but it wasn’t enough to keep Mooretown from grabbing the win.
Wallaceburg currently holds the eighth and final playoff spot in the Great Lakes Junior C League, sitting two points ahead of last place Kingsville. The Comets however, have two games in hand on Wallaceburg.
