Campbell Makes NCAA Commitment to Maine
Maine appeared in the NCAA tournament consecutively from 1999, when they won the National Championship, until 2007. Maine again made the tournament last season, and has graduated many notable hockey players to the NHL including Paul Kariya, Jimmy Howard, Garth Snow, Scott Pellerin, Gustav Nyquist, and David Cullen, among others. Currently, the Maine roster features four NHL draft picks.
Campbell, a Blenheim Blades alumni, currently leads the GOJHL in goals with 38. The 20-year-old, however, will be out of the Elmira Sugar Kings’ lineup for roughly 4 weeks after undergoing facial surgery. Campbell broke his cheek bone and jaw bone during a collision in practice.
Scoring 67 points in 35 games this season, Campbell was selected as a GOJHL Midwestern All-Star and he was twice named the GOJHL Midwestern Conference Offensive Player of the Month this season.
Two years ago as a GOJHL rookie, Campbell won a Sutherland Cup championship as a member of the Sugar Kings.
Campbell will begin his NCAA career next season with Maine.
