Dresden Kings Win Fifth Straight

The Dresden Kings picked up their fifth consecutive win Friday night, breaking out in the third period to beat the last place Kingsville Comets 3-1 on home ice.

After battling to a scoreless first period, in which Dresden’s Brent Paxton, and Kingsville’s Laine Parent shut the door for their teams, Mark Fratarcangeli scored to put Kingsville ahead 1-0 heading into the third.

Five minutes into the third, Alex Richie opened the scoring for Dresden, knotting the game at 1-1.

Midway through the frame, veteran Dylan Mertz put the Kings on top, scoring with assists going to Kevin Ritzer and John Montgomery. Mertz’s goal would hold up as the game winner with Keith Maisonville sliding in an empty netter to ice the game.

Dresden will put their five game winning streak on the line Monday, when they travel to Wheatley to face the Sharks, who are on an eight game winning streak of their own.
