Kings Snap Sharks’ Streak, Extend Theirs to Six
The Dresden Kings snapped the Wheatley Sharks’ eight game winning streak, in the process extending their own to six games, defeating Wheatley 3-2 on the road Monday night.
Midway through the first period, Jeff Vanrabaeys and Taylor Sisson scored a mere 13-seconds apart to give the Dresden Kings a 2-0 lead. Before the frame was done however, Wheatley would answer back with a goal from Jon Woelk.
The teams played to a scoreless second period, which included a missed penalty shot by Riley Babkirk, who started the season as a member of the Leamington Flyers Junior B team.
In the third, Derek VanEvery scored for Dresden to put the Kings ahead 3-1. Less than 30 seconds later, the Sharks replied as Austin Fontaine buried one behind Dresden goalie Brent Paxton.
Paxton however would then shut the door for the Kings, making 27 saves in total in the win.
With the win, Dresden pulls within 2-points of the Wheatley Sharks, who currently sit 4th in the Great Lakes league, and within 1-point of the Blenheim Blades who are fifth. Dresden faces Mooretown, Blenheim, and Belle River (twice) to close out their season.
