Lakers Lose 5th Straight, Comets Gain Ground
Holding onto the 8th and final playoff spot, the Lakers now sit only 3 points ahead of Kingsville following the Comets’ 4-2 win at Wallaceburg Wednesday. Kingsville also has two games in hand on the Lakers.
Wednesday, Kingsville opened the game with back to back powerplay goals in the second period on a 5-minute powerplay following a check from behind call on Wallaceburg’s Jake Carter. Zack Brown and Ryan Desjarlais had the goals.
Wallaceburg would bounce back shortly after with two goals of their own less than a minute apart from Scott Lubbers and Justin Whitson. As the period was coming to a close however, Frank Desjardin would put Kingsville back on top, a goal which would prove to hold up as the game winner.
Daniel Beaudoin scored the lone third period goal, an insurance marker for Kingsville, again on the powerplay.
Wallaceburg’s Joel Sowinski made 36 saves in the losing effort.
Wallaceburg will try to snap their 5 game losing streak Tuesday against Essex, before hosting Blenheim next Wednesday. The Lakers sit with only 5 games remaining, and a tough schedule that also features Belle River and red hot Wheatley.
