North American Soil Suiting Schaafsma Well

Aftering spending the past two seasons in Europe, Blenheim’s Jamie Schaafsma is thriving on North American soil playing with the Allen Americans of the Central Hockey League.

In 31 games this season, Schaafsma has 12 goals and 13 assists for 25 points. Since New Year’s Eve, Schaafsma, who represented the Netherlands at last year’s World Hockey Championships, has been on a tear, scoring 8 points in 4 games.

Of Schaafsma’s 12 goals this season 5 were game winners, including the game winning goal in a 5-4 win over the Rapid City Rush January 5, a team which features Wallaceburg’s Jamie VanderVeeken.

Allen currently sits first overall in the Central Hockey League with a 24-5-2 record through 31 games. Allen is an affiliate of the AHL’s Texas Stars and the NHL’s Dallas Stars.

Last season, Schaafsma scored 57 points in 36 games as a member of HC Gherdeina in Italy’s second division league.

Allen faces Forth Worth Friday January 11 and Saturday January 12.
