Playoff Fate Now Out Of Lakers Hands
Wednesday night, the Wallaceburg Lakers, who sit one point ahead of the Kingsville Comets for the eighth and final playoff spot, had a win and they’re in situation facing the Wheatley Sharks. Unfortunately for Wallaceburg, the Sharks brought their high powered offence and defeated the Lakers 7-2.
Now, Wallaceburg’s playoff fate is out of their hands as the Kingsville Comets now have a win and they’re in situation of their own Saturday against the Essex 73s.
Wednesday, Kyle Quick, Kurtis Ouellette and Eric Rivard scored for Wheatley in the first period, while Justin Whitson scored his 24th of the season, giving the Lakers forward a 20 goal improvement from last season when he scored 4.
In the second, Sebastian Kanally started things off for Wheatley before Sam Jasmin scored to make it 4-2 heading into the third.
Wheatley however wouldn’t allow another goal and turned up their own offence. Rivard scored his second of the game, while Riley Babkirk and Kevin Sawatzky also scored for Wheatley.
Wheatley finishes third in the Great Lakes Junior C League loop and will face Alvinston in the first round of playoffs. Dresden will face Blenheim, while Belle River will face Mooretown. The only series that is not decided is who will face first place Essex, as the Kingsville Comets have a chance to claim that spot Saturday night.
