Big Weekend For CK Ballers
Several Chatham-Kent basketball players enjoyed big weekends on the court across Ontario and the United States.
In Waterloo, Chatham’s Max Allin scored a triple double leading his Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks to a 102-84 victory over the Western Mustangs. Allin drained 30-points in the win, and added 10 rebounds and 12 assists. His 30-point performance included going a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line.
The win secures fourth place for Laurier in the OUA West, meaning they will play fifth place Brock in the opening round quarter final.
On the women’s side in OUA action, the York University Lions, featuring Wallaceburg’s Shauney Fischer and Erin Sarapnickas, played a must win game Friday against the Laurentian Voyageurs. Fischer scored a season high 13-points lifting her team to a 65-56 win. Sarapnickas was held pointless in 13-minutes of court time, but picked up 2 rebounds. The win means the York Lions will play Toronto in the opening round of the OUA playoffs.
In NCAA basketball, Wallaceburg’s Deanna scored 15-points for the Northeastern University Huskies Friday night. The huskies fell 78-70 in overtime to William & Mary.
Locally, the new St. Clair JUEL team hosted a weekend of games at the St. Clair Health Plex. St. Clair opened the weekend with a 53-32 win over GTA West. St. Clair then lost their second game to Advantage, 79-56.
