Ekblad Incredible in Maroons Win
Chatham’s penalty kill excelled, as the Maroons gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.
Chatham was paced by Brennan Feasey, who registered one goal. Feasey scored 5:46 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Chatham. Jay Ritchie assisted on the tally.
The Maroons’ offense operated below they season average. Chatham puts an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game.
Brayden Hopkins also scored for Chatham. In addition, Chatham received assists from Trevor Richardson, Michael Verboom, and Ian Faubert, who contributed one a piece.
Leamington did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Flyers average 3.6 goals per game. Leamington forced the Maroons goalie Ekblad to work between the pipes, taking 52 shots.
The Flyers were led by Dakota Olvin, who scored the team’s only goal. Olvin scored on the power play 12:38 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Leamington. Leamington had gotten the advantage when Chatham’s Ritchie was sent off for hooking. Jacob McGhee picked up the assist.
Darien Ekblad made 51 saves for the Maroons on 52 shots. Chatham incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Matt Mancina rejected 22 shots on goal for the Flyers. Leamington incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
