Essex Edges Dresden in Overtime
The Dresden Kings fought tooth and nail with the Essex 73s to even their best of seven series, but the Kings fell one goal short, losing 4-3 to Essex in overtime.
After a scoreless first period, Derek Daly put the Dresden Kings on the board first, with assists going to Cody McPhail and Wade Esselment.
Essex’s Scott Bromley would answer back quickly, but John Montgomery and Josh Beatty would then score for Dresden only 35 seconds apart to give the Kings the lead. Alex Garon popped in Essex’s second goal of the game before the period was out, cutting Dresden’s lead to 3-2 heading to the third period.
In the third, Daniel Slipchuck scored shorthanded to tie the game 3-3, where it would stand at the end of regulation.
After trading scoring chances in the extra frame, Alex Garon scored his second of the game, giving the Essex 73s a 4-3 overtime win, and a 2-0 series lead.
Essex will again host Dresden Friday at 7:30pm, before the teams travel back to Dresden Sunday evening.
