Great Lakes League Hands Out Awards

The Essex 73s cleaned up in the wins column this year, and the team did the same at the annual Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League award banquet Thursday night in Blenheim.

Corey Beaulieu took home the MVP award, and was the league’s top scorer this season collecting 22 goals and 41 assists for 63 points in 40 games. Essex defenseman Kevin Boggs was named the league’s top blueliner. The overage captain of Essex had 23 points in 31 games for the 73s.

Jon Woelk of the Wheatley Sharks, who led Wheatley with 46 points in 40 games this season, won the Most Desire Award.

Trevor Wheaton and Arren Romeril of Essex shared the Best GAA honours, while Kingsville’s Daniel Beaudoin, who led his team with 34 points, was the Great Lakes rookie of the year.
