Jones to Return Soon, With Visor
Chatham’s Ryan Jones will soon find himself back in the Edmonton Oilers lineup, however, this time, the NHLer will be wearing a visor.
After suffering a serious eye injury during a training session in Minnesota, Jones, who has never worn a visor in his four year NHL career, will don a half shield when he returns to the ice.
Jones, who has been skating in preparation for his return, will look to rejoin the young Oilers lineup later this month.
After scoring 17 and 18 goals in the last two seasons, Jones is expected to step into the Edmonton Oilers bottom two forward lines and provide support scoring, and continue to be a cog on the Edmonton penalty kill as he has been in the past two seasons.
Jones, who required emergency surgery on his eye when he suffered the injury in January, is not without experience playing with face protection, as the former captain and Hobey Baker candidate of the Miami University RedHawks, wore a cage, as is mandated, during his four year NCAA career.
The Edmonton Oilers currently sit 11th in the Western Conference with a 5-5-3 record, but are only 1 point out of 7th, and 2 points out of 6th place in the West.
