Kings Eliminated in Overtime
The Dresden Kings saw their 2012-2013 season come to an end Sunday night at home after the Essex 73s completed a sweep of the Kings with a 6-5 overtime win.
After Jordan Brohman and Corey Beaulieu put Essex up by two early, Derek VanEvery pulled the Kings within one before the first period was over.
In the second, following a Colin Moore goal for the 73s, Dresden came to life scoring three goals in the frame, including markers from Dylan Mertz, Taylor Sisson, and Jesse Allen, to vault Dresden to a 4-3 lead.
Josh Beatty would score less than a minute into the third period with the man advantage giving Dresden a two goal lead, but the Kings couldn’t hold on, allowing Jordan Brohman to score, pulling Essex within one, and Scott Bromley tying the game with only 1:02 left on the clock.
With a fresh sheet of ice, and elimination on the line, Dresden’s season ended quickly in the extra frame as Bromley scored his second of the game at 1:59 of overtime to lift the 73s to the win, and to send them uncontested to the Great Lakes Junior C final. Essex also swept Kingsville in the first round of the playoffs and now awaits the winner of the other Great Lakes semi-final between Wheatley and Belle River.
