Kings Even Series With Blades, Sharks Up By Two
The Dresden Kings edged the Blenheim Blades 2-1 to even their opening round best of seven series at one each.
Playing in front of a large crowd in Blenheim, Josh Beatty opened the scoring for the Kings 27 seconds into the game. In the third, Blenheim’s Tyler Clarke evened the score on the powerplay.
Dylan Mertz would play the hero however, scoring for the Dresden Kings to lift them to a 2-1 win, and even the series. The two teams will face each other Friday, February 9 in Dresden. Puck drop is at 7:30pm.
In Wheatley, Brett Babkirk, Sebastian Kanally, Jon Woelk, and Kyle Quick all scored for the second consecutive game to life the Wheatley Sharks to a 4-2 win, and a two games to none series advantage. Wheatley will look to close out the series this weekend as they travel to Alvinston for back to back games on Friday and Saturday.
In other Great Lakes Junior C playoff action, Laine Parent, one night after making 80 saves in a 2-1 loss to Essex, kept his Kingsville Comets in the game again, making 41 saves in a 4-3 loss. Kingsville trails Essex two games to none. Belle River also took a two game lead by beating Mooretown 3-1.
